What are AI agents?
An AI agent is software that is given a goal and chooses the steps towards it itself. It takes in a situation, decides what to do and carries it out in connected systems, instead of only producing an answer. That is exactly where it differs from a chatbot: a chatbot replies, an agent acts.

The agent takes in what is happening: a call, a message, an event in a connected system.

From the goal and the situation it works out the next step, rather than following a fixed script.

It calls the tools it has: read a calendar, book a slot, look up a record, route the call.

AI agent questions

Largely yes. “Agentic AI” is the umbrella term for systems that plan and carry out steps on their own. “AI agent” names the individual system doing it. Both point at the same shift: away from systems that answer, towards systems that finish something.
