What is a voicebot?

A voicebot is software that understands spoken language and answers in a natural voice. On the phone it takes calls on its own, works out what the caller needs from ordinary speech and completes the request during the call: booking an appointment, answering a question, routing to the right person. Unlike a phone menu it needs no keypresses, and unlike an answering machine it does not push the work to later.

01

How a voicebot works on the phone

Four steps that run while the phone is still ringing and in the first seconds after.

01

Listen

The call is answered and speech becomes text, word by word as the caller speaks.

02

Understand

The request is derived from an ordinary sentence, together with the details that belong to it: name, date, callback number.

03

Act

The voicebot reaches into the connected systems, checks open slots or creates a record, while the call is still running.

04

Answer

The reply comes back as natural speech. Anything it cannot do it hands to a human, with a summary.

Three things that get lumped together and work in fundamentally different ways.

Where voicebots help most

The pattern is always the same: many repeating calls, and a team that cannot sit by the phone for them.

Booking

Practices, law firms and workshops lose calls exactly when they are busiest. A voicebot answers any number of calls at once.

Information and status

Opening hours, availability, progress on a case. Questions whose answer sits in a system the voicebot can read.

Calls outside opening hours

In the evening and at weekends nobody picks up. The call is still a job, and otherwise it goes to a competitor.

In depth: what is an AI phone agent?

Voicebot questions

Voicebot is the umbrella term for any software that answers in speech. AI phone agent names the case this page is about: a voicebot that answers a company's incoming calls on its own number and completes the request. That is what elunos.ai builds.

No. It is published to the existing number, the telephony provider stays the same, and customers keep dialling the number they know.

They should, and they will be told. Disclosure is not only fair but foreseen for voice systems under the EU AI Act. What matters is not the illusion but that the request is finished in one call rather than three callbacks.

At elunos.ai it is billed per conversation minute, with a free tier and no per-seat base fee. The calculator on the pricing page shows what that means for a given call volume.

That depends on the provider, not on the technology. Three things decide it: where calls are processed and stored, whether there is a proper data processing agreement, and whether caller data ever leaves the EU. elunos.ai is hosted in Frankfurt and data does not leave the EU.
